The Drive to Win, by Steve Riach, is a hardback book of about 55 pages that has a wide variety of applications and uses. The book is about 8" x 10" in size, and is absolutely full of great pictures and quotes from cover to cover. These beautiful photographs of competitors, cars, racing, pit stops, grandstands, etc. are accompanied by text that is very informative about the history of stock car racing and its rise in popularity. Some technical information about the cars and the sport also is included. Most importantly, though, the book provides rich insights into the emotions, feelings, and faith of the drivers and those around them who are involved in the competition--Coy & Joe Gibbs; Jeff Gordon; Dale & Kelly Jarrett; Mark Martin; Adam, Kyle, Richard Petty; Robert Pressley; Lake Speed; Darrell Waltrip (also wrote the Foreword) and Stevie and many others. This book, very professional and high quality in appearance, is great just for the reading, but it also would make a great "coffee table" book, as well as a perfect gift item for special occasions. A "Heat of a Champion" patch inside the front cover (www.heartofachampion.com), a poster neatly enveloped in the back cover, and a center fold-out page on teamwork (with cool pictures of pit crew action)--these things add a special touch. Cost of the book is about $20.00, but it is well worth the money. Published by Honor Books (www.honorbooks.com) in 2001, the book is available from Lifeway Christian Stores (www.lifewaystores.com) and other Christian book distributors. |

The Driving Force. This is a great book for inspiration or presentation (has a presentation page in the front--"Presented to ____, by ____, date____"). Written in 1999 by Mike Hembree, this hardback book of 130 pages has a foreword by Joe Gibbs, followed by 12 chapters with titles like, "Courage," "Determination," "Respect," "Vision," "Heritage," and "Faith." In addition to some great inspirational text and quotes from a variet of NASCAR personalities, it also is jam-packed with great pictures, both from the 1998-99 years, and from the bygone days of stock car racing (some great shots, e.g., of Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty, David Pearson; and a great picture of the 4 generations of Petty drivers. Neat book--available at Lifeway Christian Stores (www.lifewaystores.com) and other Christian book distributors. Cost is just over $10.00. |
